Called to Trust Him

I love watching the way my kids trust their daddy.

There is the basic level of trust.  The faith that exists on a subconscious level.  That belief that is so strong that they never even realise it’s a belief.  They never worry about lack of food.  They never worry that daddy won’t come home from work to play with them.  They just know that it happens.  They never even question it.

Then there is that next level which happens when their daddy asks them to do something a little bit scary.  Jump from somewhere up high, or when he throws them in the air.  In those moments, you can see the briefest hesitation before they leap.  And yet it is so brief!  They are trusting someone in a way that as adults we find so difficult.

I think that is part of what Jesus meant when he said we needed to become like little children to enter the kingdom of heaven.  Faith like children.  Faith and trust come hand in hand.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT – Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

God is calling me to place my faith in him.  To trust him wholeheartedly.  This means not worrying about when or how he is going to provide, just believing that he will!  Believing he will because he loves me and he has promised to.  And honestly, I’ve never seen him let me down.  He really has brought me safely to this point.  He really has taught me to trust him.  I wrote something that closely ties into this a few years ago.

My Daddy is a Race Car Driver

Psalms 22:9-10 NLT – Yet you brought me safely from my mother’s womb and led me to trust you at my mother’s breast. I was thrust into your arms at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born.

There is so much in life that we miss out on when we take things into our own hands.  He is the God of the universe, he knows all things, holds all things.  And yet we struggle so hard to take control.  It’s impossible to even think about the blessings we have missed out on by not trusting him and following what he says instantly and with abandon.  His heart is so for us.  If he asks us to leap, there is a reason.  Whether that reason is to bring blessing to another, or to bring us joy, there is a reason!  And by hesitating, by ignoring his gentle prodding, we are walking away from the blessing and reward that it may bring us and the world around us.

Hebrews 10:35 NLT – So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord.  Remember the great reward it brings you!

Not only that, but the bible actually says that trusting God was a part of being a beautiful and holy woman.

1 Peter 3:5 NLT – This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands.

In this search for what being a daughter, a woman, a wife and a mother looks like, I think trusting God is fundamental.
